The Math Forum's Problem Solving Process

This course aligns well with the Math Forum's Problems of the Week but could alsobe used to develop techniques to use with problem solving prompts in general. Participants are not required to have a Problem of the Week (PoW) Membership, although at the end of the course, they may find value in considering that as a logical next step as a resource for their students.

This moderated course will be led by Suzanne Alejandre, Director of Professional Development. It will take place online using Blackboard Vista (formerly WebCT). The only technical requirements are a web browser and Internet access.

Who: Teachers, math coaches, curriculum developers who are interested in learning about our problem solving process. This course aligns well with the Math Forum's Problems of the Week but could also be used to develop techniques to use with problem solving prompts in general.

When: Thursday, January 22 through Wednesday, March 4, 2009.
Registration closes at 5 pm EST on Friday, January 16, 2009.
The course will span six weeks. Participants will have some flexibility within each week but are expected to complete the activities during the assigned week.

Credit: All individuals who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate indicating that they have completed 15 hours of professional development. This is equivalent to 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
